Session Open Dynamics trading indices futures hybrid automated traders

August 27, 2024 by AFT

As we approach the NYSE open, here are some key points to consider:

  1. Session Open Dynamics:
    • At the opening bell, the market could either see a trending breakout or engage in light volume, frothy or choppy see-saw movements around the session open within the Daily Session Fib Grid.
  2. Key Levels to Monitor:
    • MSFG, WSFG, DSFG previous session Open NTZ, highs and lows. These levels can be significant in determining early market direction and potential support or resistance points during the session.
    • Additionally, be mindful of outside gaps (where the opening price is outside the previous session’s range) and inside gaps (where the opening price is within the previous session’s range). These gaps can offer clues about market sentiment and potential follow-through.
  3. Time Cycle 10 AM Jiggle:
    • Around 10:00 AM, the market often experiences the “10 AM Jiggle,” where it establishes a clearer direction and often a new high or low.
      • This may lead to a reversal attempt or we could see a pullback followed by a continuation of the earlier trend, posting a higher low or lower high for the session.
  4. News Catalysts:
    • Be aware of any scheduled news releases around 10:00 AM, as they can act as catalysts by reinforcing the current trend or triggering a reversal.
    • During earnings season, particularly pay attention to the MAG7 (Meta, Apple, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Nvidia, Tesla) earnings reports, as well as AI tech-related companies and banks. These sectors can have a significant impact on market sentiment and direction.
  5. Indices Futures Correlations:
    • For an easy view of the correlations between indices futures trends and price action, check AWT Trendo: AWT Trendometer. This can help determine whether the market is mixed, choppy, or confluent, and provide a bias for the upcoming session.
  6. Overall Market View:
    • For a comprehensive market view that includes levels, signals, gaps, and pending news, visit TradingPoint: Overall Market View.

Time cycles are critical in trading indices futures

August 27, 2024 by AFT

Time Cycles in Trading

Time cycles are critical in trading, especially in indices futures, as they help traders anticipate periods of increased activity, potential reversals, and significant price movements. The ATS Discord trading groups provide time cycles in pre-session summaries and real-time notifications for traders to stay ahead of the curve.

Common Time Cycles Observed by Traders

1. Opening and Closing Sessions

Market Open (9:30 AM ET): The market open is one of the most active times of the day, often marked by significant volatility as traders react to overnight news, economic data, and other pre-market developments. Opening gaps, breakouts, and sharp reversals are common during this period.

Market Close (4:00 PM ET): The last hour of trading, often called the “power hour,” can see a surge in activity as traders finalize their positions for the day. This period is particularly important for institutional traders and can lead to strong trends or reversals.

2. Mid-Morning Reversal (10:00 AM – 11:00 AM ET)

10:00 AM Reversal Time (10 AM Jiggle): Often, the market makes its first significant move of the day between 9:30 AM and 10:00 AM ET. By 10:00 AM, traders often witness a reversal or continuation of the initial trend. Economic data releases, such as home sales, consumer sentiment, or manufacturing data, often occur around 10:00 AM, influencing market direction.

11:00 AM Transition: Around 11:00 AM, the market might consolidate or begin to lose momentum as traders start preparing for the lunchtime lull.

3. End-of-Session Squaring (3:00 PM – 4:00 PM ET)

3:00 PM ET Reactions: This is another critical time when traders start positioning themselves for the close. Volume often increases as traders who have held positions throughout the day make decisions on whether to hold overnight or close out.

3:30 PM ET Ramp-Up: The final 30 minutes can be very volatile, with large institutional orders coming in, leading to significant price swings.

4. FOMC (Federal Open Market Committee) Announcements

2:00 PM ET (FOMC Days): On days when the Federal Reserve announces interest rate decisions, the market often remains relatively quiet until 2:00 PM ET when the announcement is made. After the release, there can be extreme volatility, followed by the Fed Chair’s press conference.

5. European Market Open (3:00 AM – 5:00 AM ET)

London Open (3:00 AM – 4:00 AM ET): The London market open is significant because it often brings a wave of liquidity into the market, especially in currency pairs and indices futures tied to European and US markets.

Overlap with Asia and US Pre-Market: The period between 3:00 AM and 5:00 AM ET sees overlapping trading sessions between Europe and the end of the Asian trading day. This overlap can lead to increased volatility and trend formation.

6. Asia Market Sessions (7:00 PM – 3:00 AM ET)

Tokyo Open (7:00 PM – 9:00 PM ET): The Tokyo session can influence futures trading, especially in currencies and commodities. It is less volatile than the European and US sessions but still important for setting the tone for the day.

Australia and New Zealand Open: Before the Tokyo market, the Sydney and Wellington sessions open, marking the start of the global trading day. These markets can have a minor influence on futures trading, especially commodities like gold and oil.

7. Weekly Cycles

Monday Opening: Mondays can be unpredictable as traders digest news from the weekend. The market might gap up or down based on weekend developments.

Friday Close: Fridays often see traders closing positions ahead of the weekend, leading to increased volatility, particularly in the final hours of the trading day.

8. Monthly and Quarterly Cycles

End of the Month (EOM) Rebalancing: Institutional investors often rebalance portfolios at the end of the month, leading to increased volume and potential price swings.

End of the Quarter (EOQ) Reporting: The end of the quarter can see significant rebalancing and window dressing by fund managers, affecting indices futures and other financial instruments.

9. Economic Data Release Times

Non-Farm Payrolls (First Friday of Every Month, 8:30 AM ET): One of the most anticipated data releases, the Non-Farm Payrolls report can cause significant market moves, particularly in the first few minutes after its release.

CPI and PPI Reports: Inflation data like the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Producer Price Index (PPI) also come out at 8:30 AM ET and can influence market direction.

10. Holiday Seasonality

Pre-Holiday Rallies: Markets often experience a rally before major holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas, a phenomenon known as the “Santa Claus Rally.”

Post-Holiday Sessions: The day after a major holiday can be quieter, but it may also bring volatility as traders return to the market.

How to Use Time Cycles in Trading

These time cycles are not rules but rather observed patterns that can help in planning trades and understanding market behavior. Successful traders often incorporate these cycles into their broader strategies, considering them alongside technical and fundamental analysis.

Updating of support policy inactive product user pruning and expiry of old version of AFT8

August 10, 2024 by AFT

A Quick Note to Update on Changes of Policy

This is a win-win model for traders with a winning mindset! From time to time, we have to assess, adapt, and evolve, as will our products. To ensure the best quality of service and maintain a sustainable support structure, we are updating our support, Discord usage, and AFT8 version policy.

1. Challenges to Address

1.1 Support Overhead Black Hole: Win-Lose

Recently, we’ve faced significant challenges with users who, despite our generous time investment and comprehensive support, have not engaged in a win-win partnership. Many have pursued personal quests that deviate from our step-by-step baseline systems Zero To Hero process, which is great for self-assisted off-piste, but requires a constant support overhead. This overhead leads to substantial lost time and resources, and delays in coding and releases. This is no longer a tenable support model. We must focus on the turnkey Zero To Hero path and let the freemium automated traders go their way self-assisted. The structured Zero To Hero way for the VIP members worked great, so the support policy will focus on winners and the winning way and those who contribute; a win-win for all.

1.2 Discord Spammers and Scammers

Additionally, we’ve encountered issues with spammers and scammers, malicious actors in Discord seeking to defraud traders or “steal” business and sell services under pretense and impersonation. To prevent bad actors from joining or getting a foothold, some pretend to be traders and free trialists and are enacting campaigns on the members in DM. Vendors, Ponzi scheme operators, crooks, and thieves prey on people’s financial aspirations and dreams. We are taking stringent measures in Discord as a result, so patience may be required as the dust settles.

1.3 AFT Old Versions Used to Dodge Licensing

Some traders, let’s give them the benefit of the doubt due to a lack of communication perhaps, are still using outdated versions of our software and have not updated to licensed versions for trading live or getting funded. They have yet to contribute or support us, make a referral, or even a review for their years of free usage.

Solutions for the Challenges

These challenges, combined with the need to focus our efforts on genuine users who value our tools and support, have led us to adapt our policies. Our goal is to foster a community of dedicated traders who are committed to success and collaboration, ensuring that we can continue to provide top-tier service and create win-win scenarios for everyone involved. Changes are now in force as below:

2.1 Support Levels and Model

  • Free trials/VIP – access all groups + interactive support focus on Zero To Hero
  • Free users – read-only self-assisted support + help desk for installation and troubleshooting

2.2 Discord Inactive Product User Pruning

Inactive product users will be removed by ATS Bot from Discord groups. Users not logged into AFT or AWT and actively using will be assumed inactive, regardless of VIP or Freemium status.

  • 150 user accounts have already been removed by ATS Bot. Traders can rejoin as explained in the article below.
  • Note VIP users are affected too! Some VIP users are attending Discord but are not actively logged into AWT or AFT, maybe just coasting in sim mode, so they are seen by the bot as inactive. Hence this news update and info:
  • VIP users who are within renewal dates of subscriptions will not be pruned as we fix that module and can rejoin via the Discord Group links.
  • ATS Discord Groups inactive user pruning

2.3 AFT8 Old Versions Expiry

Old versions of AFT8 will expire and self-uninstall over time. Traders using them for free live trading and free evaluation trading to avoid a subscription need not panic. You can use the Get Funded Accelerator and save 80% and get a summer deal! See here for details: AFT8 Pricing

  • This could be due to a lack of communication with a handful of traders, and we are now addressing it.
  • N.B: Polite update notices will be sent out to all, and then in a window of time, the older versions will expire, stop working, and self-uninstall. Please update to the current versions to avoid complications.
  • AFT8 Downloads

Trading and Winning Mindset

We can only do what is right. Mistakes, challenges, bad actors, and so on will be plenty along the way. Wins and losses are fine; let them happen. It’s great! Grist for the mill! We are thankful for the experiences as we learn and move higher. Our focus should be on stoic, pragmatic trading and development, not wasting time on other matters. Emotional reactions are not required. Mistakes and challenges are opportunities to level up our game!

Hypothetical performance results have many inherent limitations, some of which are described below. No representation is made that any account will or is likely to achieve profits or losses similar to those shown. One of the limitations of hypothetical performance results is that they are generally prepared with the benefit of hindsight. In addition, hypothetical trading does not involve financial risk, and no hypothetical trading record can completely account for the impact of financial risk in actual trading. For example, the ability to withstand losses or adhere to a particular trading program despite trading losses are material points that can adversely affect actual trading results.
