AFT8 Stopped Taking Automated Trades?

September 22, 2026 by AFT

Was AFT8 taking automated trades through your turnkey workspace, but has now stopped—even though signals still appear?

We’ve received reports from traders whose previously working AFT8 setup is no longer taking automated entries. If this describes your situation, an important first check is whether NinjaTrader’s contract symbology display format has changed, particularly following a NinjaTrader update or a change in your Account Dashboard preferences.

AFT8 currently requires Numeric contract symbology. A different display format can prevent it from recognising instruments correctly, so a workspace that previously took trades may stop taking entries.

Some Lifetime license owners have also seen an Optional Annual Maintenance renewal message and assumed this caused the problem. That message alone does not mean your perpetual AFT8 license has stopped working. Check contract symbology, software versions and workspace settings separately from your license entitlement.

AFT8 used to place automated trades through the turnkey workspaces; now it doesn’t take automated signals.

We’ve received many reports from traders saying “AFT8 is not trading automatically” or “The signal appears, but the trade is not being taken.”

  • There has also been confusion among some Lifetime license owners who see an Optional Annual Maintenance renewal message and assume that it has disabled AFT8.
  • These situations need separate checks: your license entitlement, your installed software versions, and your NinjaTrader workspace settings.

Lifetime owners: Optional Annual Maintenance is optional

  • See here for an explaination on OAM Pricing

An AFT8 Ultimate Perpetual license included with an ATS Ultimate One-Time/Lifetime package does not require an Optional Annual Maintenance renewal to keep the core AFT8 software working.

  • Older AFT8 versions may display renewal messages based on previous licensing rules. A renewal reminder does not, by itself, establish why a trade was missed.
  • Make sure you have the latest supported versions of NinjaTrader 8 and AFT8, and follow our AFT8 renewal notification and license-check instructions.
  • With the correct perpetual license assigned and synchronised, the current software should remain available under that license. Automated entries still depend on your configuration, connections, valid signals and trading controls.

One setting to check first: contract symbology

  • If AFT8 previously worked and has stopped taking entries, check whether NinjaTrader’s contract display format has changed.
  • NinjaTrader supports several contract display styles, but AFT8 requires Symbology Display Style to be set to Numeric.
  • An unsupported format can prevent AFT8 from recognising instruments correctly. Symptoms may include:
    • Signals appearing without an automated entry being taken.
    • Missing Algo Entry values in the Market Analyzer.
    • Trade Manager showing Off.
    • Unknown Instrument errors in the Control Center Log tab.

These symptoms can have other causes, but contract symbology is an important early check.

There are two places to check

1. Your NinjaTrader Account Dashboard

  • The cloud-based Symbology Display Style preference in your NinjaTrader Account Dashboard applies across Web, Mobile and Desktop.

A preference selected in the Account Dashboard overrides the Desktop setting. Set it to Numeric when using AFT8.

2. Your local NinjaTrader Desktop settings

  • A recent NinjaTrader installation or update may also leave your local settings different from the configuration you previously used.

In NinjaTrader Desktop:

  1. Open Control Center → Tools → Options, or Tools → Settings, depending on your version.
  2. Select General.
  3. Set Symbology Display Style to Numeric.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Restart NinjaTrader and reopen your AFT8 workspace.

If the format changes back, recheck the Account Dashboard preference.

For screenshots and detailed instructions, see:

  • AFT8 Unknown Instrument or Missing Algo Entry Values — Set Symbology to Numeric
  • NinjaTrader 8 Contract Symbols Changed After an Update
  • NinjaTrader’s Official Contract Symbology Guide

After a NinjaTrader update, repeat your AFT8 setup checks

Installing the latest software is important, but it does not guarantee that every setting still matches your AFT8 workspace requirements.

After an installation or update, work through the AFT8 setup checklist again, including your connections, instrument contracts, session settings and trading controls.

  • Start with AFT8 Prerequisites and Recommended Settings, then follow AFT8 Not Taking Automated Trades — Troubleshooting Algo Entry.
  • Remember that a signal visible on a chart is not necessarily an eligible entry for the configured Algo Entry controller. The signal source, age, permitted session and entry conditions also need to match.
  • Verify operation in simulation before resuming live or prop-firm trading.

Still not taking trades?

Submit an ATS support request with:

  • Your NinjaTrader and AFT8 versions.
  • A screenshot of your AFT8 Market Analyzer showing the instrument, Algo Entry values and Trade Manager status.
  • The signal and time at which you expected an entry.
  • Any relevant Control Center Log errors or license messages.

This helps us distinguish a license issue from an instrument-format, setup or signal-eligibility problem.

Coming update: compatibility with different contract symbol formats

We are working on an AFT8 update to handle different NinjaTrader contract symbology formats automatically. The update is designed to convert contract symbols internally to the Numeric format AFT8 uses, so instrument recognition remains compatible regardless of the selected display format.

In the meantime, please set Symbology Display Style to Numeric in your NinjaTrader Account Dashboard and Desktop settings, restart NinjaTrader, and repeat the setup checks linked above.

You do not need to wait for this update to address the current symbology issue. Use Numeric now, then verify that Algo Entry values and Trade Manager status appear correctly and test operation in simulation. If entries still are not being taken, follow the troubleshooting guide or submit a support request with the details listed above.

How to Progress From ATM Templates to AFT8’s Adaptive Trade Manager

November 19, 2025 by AFT

Many traders coming from NinjaTrader’s traditional ATM (Advanced Trade Management) templates wonder if they should bring their static stop and target configurations directly into the AFT8 Trade Manager. While simple ATM setups can be copied over, the real strength of AFT8 comes from something far more powerful: its dynamic, structure-aware trade management.

This article explains the best path forward and why the recommended approach is to follow the Zero-to-Hero progression using the turnkey workspaces, gradually building the skills needed to trade with confidence using AFT8’s adaptive engine.

Start With the Turnkey Workspaces

AFT8 provides a complete set of Stage 1–4 turnkey workspaces designed to take traders from absolute beginner to adaptive, competent, real-time execution. These workspaces include:

  • Session Breakout Workspace
  • Trend Scalper Workspace
  • Pre-configured adaptive trade management settings
  • All indicators and filters needed for each stage

These ready-to-use environments remove the complexity and let you start trading immediately, without having to build your own configurations or worry about tuning.

Learn By Doing – The Zero-to-Hero Method

The Zero-to-Hero workflow is not theory-based. You learn by placing trades, observing outcomes, and seeing how the system behaves in different market conditions. Each stage increases your understanding and confidence.

Stage 1 – Raw Signal Mode

Focus on recognizing entries and exits manually, while AFT8 handles the management for you.

Stage 2 – Assisted Trading

Introduce structure filters, SFG levels, and session context to improve timing and avoid low-quality trades.

Stage 3 – Semi-Automated Execution

Allow the system to fire trades automatically while you decide when to activate or stand down.

Stage 4 – Adaptive Mastery

Trade using the full adaptive engine, understanding why stops and targets shift with volatility and structure.

This step-by-step approach trains your pattern-recognition and decision-making naturally. It is the fastest route to stable, repeatable execution.

Fine-Tune Only After Mastery

Once you are comfortable with how AFT8 adapts to live conditions—momentum, volatility, session flow, and SFG/WSFG structure—you can begin to personalize the settings:

  • Tighten the adaptive stops if you prefer smaller protective ranges.
  • Loosen the breathing room for larger trends and extended runners.
  • Adjust one instrument at a time only after completing the Zero-to-Hero stages.

Making adjustments too early often leads to inconsistency. Mastery first, customization later.

Why Staying Dynamic Beats Static ATM Rules

Classic ATM templates rely on fixed distances—“20-tick stop”, “16-tick target”, and so on. These values remain the same regardless of market state, volatility, or session structure. While familiar, static setups struggle across:

  • Fast vs slow markets
  • Different instruments
  • Ranging vs trending conditions
  • Expanding and contracting volatility cycles

AFT8’s adaptive management is built to respond dynamically. Stops and targets are positioned using:

  • Session Fib Grids (SFG, WSFG)
  • Volatility expansion and contraction
  • Trend strength readings
  • Real-time market structure
  • No-Trade Zone behaviour

This allows the system to self-correct during changing conditions—something that static ATM rules cannot do.

Recommended Path Forward

While it is possible to port simple ATM templates to AFT8, the best long-term performance comes from embracing its dynamic adaptive engine. To get the most from the platform:

  1. Begin with the turnkey workspaces.
  2. Follow the Zero-to-Hero progression from Stage 1 to Stage 4.
  3. Use trial, repetition, and hands-on practice to build instinctive skill.
  4. Adjust settings only after mastering how the system behaves.

This method gives traders the practical experience needed to handle real-time decision-making, prop-firm evaluations, and fast-moving market environments.

Master the system first, modify it later. This is the proven route to consistent and confident futures trading.

NinjaTrader Automated Trading and Non-Correlated Asset Streams

Selection process for Automated Trading Non-Correlated Asset Streams

What Is an Asset Stream?

An asset stream is the combination of a system and an instrument, typically operated in its own account. Thinking in asset streams (rather than instruments alone) clarifies risk, correlation, behavior, and scaling. In practice, this often means one account per base system to keep execution and performance cleanly isolated.

Position Sizing Across Asset Streams

Position sizing should be weighted or dynamic by volatility, tick value, and stop distance—never flat across the board. Normalization examples like NQ × 3 ≈ RTY × 12 help align exposure and risk across diverse markets.

Fund-of-Funds Sizing & Expectancy

Use a fund-of-funds approach: treat each supported system/instrument stream as a sub-allocation within the portfolio.

  • Supported instruments (with AFT Cloud Data): use dynamic position sizing (lot size adapts to volatility and stop distance), which yields a normalized profit/risk view.
  • Unsupported/outlier instruments (no AFT Cloud Data): use static lot sizing. Here, do not judge by raw $ P&L across a basket—this is not normalized. Evaluate via expectancy (win rate, average win, average loss) to understand true edge.

Key takeaway: Static-lot testing is fine if you judge by expectancy, not dollars. Dynamic sizing provides the cleaner, comparable lens across streams.

The Purpose of Zero-to-Hero Stages

Zero-to-Hero is not a shortcut to full automation. Stages are designed for hybrid trading first. The DSFG baseline is intentionally unfiltered: no brakes, no optimization, no selective logic. Its job is to reveal raw system behavior across market phases—not to be run fully automated in live accounts.

Market Phases, Instrument Choice & Bias

DSFG shows phase and cycle. A winning streak can seduce you into overconfidence; a losing run can provoke abandonment—both are recency bias. Low-probability instruments are excluded from baselines for a reason: they can shine in favorable phases, but lack consistency across regimes. Reserve them for hybrid operation where you control when and why to engage.

Building a Non-Correlated Automated Portfolio

A basket of non-correlated Asset streams could consist of 4–5 high-probability instruments to 8, for example:

  • RTY
  • FDAX
  • CL
  • GC
  • ZC or ZS

BTC and NQ are highly volatile—best used in hybrid or gap-aware strategies. Instruments with severe gap risk—e.g., NG, FDAX, HG—should be run session-only and flattened pre-close. Others can run Sunday to Friday with relatively lower gap exposure.

System Selection for Automation

Better candidates for automation include WSFG and DSFG + GAP. Plain DSFG is best for hybrid learning unless you add brakes/filters/optimizations.

Due diligence: Run any candidate system in SIM for 6–12 months. One-month tests invite curve-fitting and recency bias. Prefer diversity of systems across high-probability instruments rather than chasing uncorrelated instruments on a single setup.

Selection Criteria & Market Phase Awareness

The other critical caveat is having a selection criteria or quant model—a basic guide such as ATR, volume behavior, or news-cycle impact. Without it, you risk adding low-probability instruments that can gap violently, especially when using a system baseline intended for hybrid trading or as a metric benchmark to compare your optimized variants against.

Short-term tests—such as one month—only reflect the current price cycle and phase, leading again to recency bias. Proper evaluation requires 6 to 12 months of runtime to reveal how each system and instrument behaves through full rotations of market conditions.

Low-probability instruments can appear high-probability for a time due to fundamental shifts, seasonals, or policy cycles. For example, Gold (GC) has transitioned from a mean-reversion instrument to a breakout-trading contender following policy-driven macro changes. Such shifts highlight the need to understand why an asset stream is performing and when to deploy or shelve it.

Guidance: Always define when to use and when not to use an asset stream. Outliers can remain part of your portfolio but should be activated under the right conditions—a form of strategic “launch control.”

From Hybrid to Fully Automated

All traders should complete the Zero-to-Hero stages before unlocking automated baselines:

  • First 90 days: operate in hybrid mode, compare variants to baselines, and formalize a trade plan.
  • After 90 days: unlock Automated Trading Baseline Workspaces (Level 5) and begin a 6–12 month automation journey.
Hybrid day traders
50–80% automated; human discretion for pauses, direction filters, and session management.
Swing traders
80–90% automated; ~10% human oversight for drawdown brakes, rollovers, or tech caveats.

Conclusion

Automation shouldn’t remove the trader; it should elevate the trader. By mastering hybrid operation first, you’ll know what to optimize, when to pause, and how to size intelligently. A portfolio of non-correlated asset streams—backed by dynamic sizing, expectancy awareness, quant-driven selection, and multi-system diversity—offers the most reliable path to long-term consistency.

Flexible Position Sizing & Scaling with AFT8

June 4, 2025 by AFT

AFT8 offers three distinct ways to size and scale positions, allowing traders to manage entries and exits in stages rather than all at once. These modes are:

  1. All-In, Scale-Out
  2. All-In, All-Out
  3. Scale-In, Scale-Out

Each method breaks trades into tranches—entering or exiting partial positions—so you can control how much capital is at risk at different points. This incremental approach helps lock in profits or curb losses as the market moves. While all three are available, most traders use “All-In, Scale-Out” or “All-In, All-Out” for simplicity. “Scale-In, Scale-Out” is reserved for experienced traders comfortable with building into a position and managing multiple exit levels. AFT8’s Algo Trade Manager handles all scaling once you’ve chosen your mode, though scaling in must be initiated manually to keep risk in check.

1. All-In, Scale-Out

  • How You Enter: As soon as your entry conditions trigger, AFT8 commits the entire intended position at once. You receive your full number of contracts or shares in a single fill.
  • How You Exit: Rather than closing everything at once, you set predetermined exit points. For example, you might take 50% off at the first profit target, 25% at a second level, and allow the remaining 25% to ride to the final objective. AFT8 automatically submits the staggered exit orders behind the scenes.
  • Why Use It: This technique secures partial profit early while still leaving room to catch larger trends. As the price moves in your favor, you shave off risk rather than waiting for a single exit signal. It’s particularly useful when you believe in a strong trend but want to lock in gains gradually.

2. All-In, All-Out

  • How You Enter: Identical to “All-In, Scale-Out,” you buy or sell the full position immediately upon signal.
  • How You Exit: You close out 100% of the position in one go when your exit parameters are met—no partial exits, no staggered targets.
  • Why Use It: For traders who prefer the cleanest possible execution, this mode keeps things simple. You commit all capital up front and exit on a single signal, eliminating the complexity of managing multiple orders. It’s ideal when you want a straightforward, no-nonsense entry and exit.

3. Scale-In, Scale-Out

Also known as position compounding, this method is best suited for advanced traders.

  • How You Enter: Instead of jumping in at full size, you build your position over multiple steps. For instance, you might initiate 25% of your total allocation when the first momentum threshold is met, then add another 25% if price confirms strength at a higher level, and continue until you’re fully invested. You decide the increments and price levels in AFT8’s position size settings.
  • How You Exit: Your exits are also staggered. You might take 20% off at an early profit point, another 30% if the market retests a key level, and then let the final 50% ride until your maximum target or stop is hit. AFT8’s Algo Trade Manager automatically places these exit orders according to your rules.
  • Why Use It: By scaling in, you reduce the risk of entering on a false breakout or sudden pullback. Scaling out then locks in gains in stages, so a reversal can’t erase all your profits. This dual-stage approach gives you maximum control over both entry and exit risk.

How AFT8 Manages Scale-In/Scale-Out:
Once your initial signal fires, AFT8 handles each tranche automatically. If you prefer to add manually, you can still use NinjaTrader 8’s Chart Trader, order tickets, or DOM to increase your position; AFT8 will immediately queue up the corresponding exits. Note that scaling in is disabled by default to prevent inexperienced traders from overleveraging. Only advanced users who fully understand the risks should enable it.

How to Choose Between Them

  • All-In, Scale-Out is ideal if you have very high conviction in your signal but still want to lock in profits gradually.
  • All-In, All-Out works best when you want a clear, unambiguous entry and exit—no partials.
  • Scale-In, Scale-Out is for highly dynamic markets where you’re uncertain about the signal’s strength; it lets you dial into the position as confirmation builds and peel off profits in stages.

In AFT8, you configure these modes under the “Position Sizing and Scaling” section of your strategy. Position amounts are defined in the Algo Entry settings, while exit tranches are set up in the Algo Trade Manager.

Updating of support policy inactive product user pruning and expiry of old version of AFT8

August 10, 2024 by AFT

A Quick Note to Update on Changes of Policy

This is a win-win model for traders with a winning mindset! From time to time, we have to assess, adapt, and evolve, as will our products. To ensure the best quality of service and maintain a sustainable support structure, we are updating our support, Discord usage, and AFT8 version policy.

1. Challenges to Address

1.1 Support Overhead Black Hole: Win-Lose

Recently, we’ve faced significant challenges with users who, despite our generous time investment and comprehensive support, have not engaged in a win-win partnership. Many have pursued personal quests that deviate from our step-by-step baseline systems Zero To Hero process, which is great for self-assisted off-piste, but requires a constant support overhead. This overhead leads to substantial lost time and resources, and delays in coding and releases. This is no longer a tenable support model. We must focus on the turnkey Zero To Hero path and let the freemium automated traders go their way self-assisted. The structured Zero To Hero way for the VIP members worked great, so the support policy will focus on winners and the winning way and those who contribute; a win-win for all.

1.2 Discord Spammers and Scammers

Additionally, we’ve encountered issues with spammers and scammers, malicious actors in Discord seeking to defraud traders or “steal” business and sell services under pretense and impersonation. To prevent bad actors from joining or getting a foothold, some pretend to be traders and free trialists and are enacting campaigns on the members in DM. Vendors, Ponzi scheme operators, crooks, and thieves prey on people’s financial aspirations and dreams. We are taking stringent measures in Discord as a result, so patience may be required as the dust settles.

1.3 AFT Old Versions Used to Dodge Licensing

Some traders, let’s give them the benefit of the doubt due to a lack of communication perhaps, are still using outdated versions of our software and have not updated to licensed versions for trading live or getting funded. They have yet to contribute or support us, make a referral, or even a review for their years of free usage.

Solutions for the Challenges

These challenges, combined with the need to focus our efforts on genuine users who value our tools and support, have led us to adapt our policies. Our goal is to foster a community of dedicated traders who are committed to success and collaboration, ensuring that we can continue to provide top-tier service and create win-win scenarios for everyone involved. Changes are now in force as below:

2.1 Support Levels and Model

  • Free trials/VIP – access all groups + interactive support focus on Zero To Hero
  • Free users – read-only self-assisted support + help desk for installation and troubleshooting

2.2 Discord Inactive Product User Pruning

Inactive product users will be removed by ATS Bot from Discord groups. Users not logged into AFT or AWT and actively using will be assumed inactive, regardless of VIP or Freemium status.

  • 150 user accounts have already been removed by ATS Bot. Traders can rejoin as explained in the article below.
  • Note VIP users are affected too! Some VIP users are attending Discord but are not actively logged into AWT or AFT, maybe just coasting in sim mode, so they are seen by the bot as inactive. Hence this news update and info:
  • VIP users who are within renewal dates of subscriptions will not be pruned as we fix that module and can rejoin via the Discord Group links.
  • ATS Discord Groups inactive user pruning

2.3 AFT8 Old Versions Expiry

Old versions of AFT8 will expire and self-uninstall over time. Traders using them for free live trading and free evaluation trading to avoid a subscription need not panic. You can use the Get Funded Accelerator and save 80% and get a summer deal! See here for details: AFT8 Pricing

  • This could be due to a lack of communication with a handful of traders, and we are now addressing it.
  • N.B: Polite update notices will be sent out to all, and then in a window of time, the older versions will expire, stop working, and self-uninstall. Please update to the current versions to avoid complications.
  • AFT8 Downloads

Trading and Winning Mindset

We can only do what is right. Mistakes, challenges, bad actors, and so on will be plenty along the way. Wins and losses are fine; let them happen. It’s great! Grist for the mill! We are thankful for the experiences as we learn and move higher. Our focus should be on stoic, pragmatic trading and development, not wasting time on other matters. Emotional reactions are not required. Mistakes and challenges are opportunities to level up our game!
