Session Open Dynamics trading indices futures hybrid automated traders

August 27, 2024 by AFT

As we approach the NYSE open, here are some key points to consider:

  1. Session Open Dynamics:
    • At the opening bell, the market could either see a trending breakout or engage in light volume, frothy or choppy see-saw movements around the session open within the Daily Session Fib Grid.
  2. Key Levels to Monitor:
    • MSFG, WSFG, DSFG previous session Open NTZ, highs and lows. These levels can be significant in determining early market direction and potential support or resistance points during the session.
    • Additionally, be mindful of outside gaps (where the opening price is outside the previous session’s range) and inside gaps (where the opening price is within the previous session’s range). These gaps can offer clues about market sentiment and potential follow-through.
  3. Time Cycle 10 AM Jiggle:
    • Around 10:00 AM, the market often experiences the “10 AM Jiggle,” where it establishes a clearer direction and often a new high or low.
      • This may lead to a reversal attempt or we could see a pullback followed by a continuation of the earlier trend, posting a higher low or lower high for the session.
  4. News Catalysts:
    • Be aware of any scheduled news releases around 10:00 AM, as they can act as catalysts by reinforcing the current trend or triggering a reversal.
    • During earnings season, particularly pay attention to the MAG7 (Meta, Apple, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Nvidia, Tesla) earnings reports, as well as AI tech-related companies and banks. These sectors can have a significant impact on market sentiment and direction.
  5. Indices Futures Correlations:
    • For an easy view of the correlations between indices futures trends and price action, check AWT Trendo: AWT Trendometer. This can help determine whether the market is mixed, choppy, or confluent, and provide a bias for the upcoming session.
  6. Overall Market View:
    • For a comprehensive market view that includes levels, signals, gaps, and pending news, visit TradingPoint: Overall Market View.

🎓 Trade Mastery During the Live Session

The objective is not to copy trades blindly. Traders learn how to combine algorithmic signals, automated trade management, market context, higher-time-frame analysis, AWT confirmation tools, disciplined risk management, and human decision-making.

Trade Goal: Maximize profit potential while minimizing drawdown, risk, and emotion.

New York Session Open Market Focus

The primary focus is the New York session open for U.S. equity-index futures and Micro futures, including the Nasdaq, S&P 500, Dow, Mid-Cap, and Russell 2000 markets. Oil, gold, Bitcoin, and other correlated markets may also be referenced when they provide useful context.

The flagship trade plan focuses on Session Breakout trading, with particular attention given to ES, NQ, EMD, and RTY market structure, gaps, correlations, momentum, volatility, and algorithmic trade opportunities.

The ATS Five-Step Session Breakout Approach

  1. Prepare before the open: Be at the trading desk before 8:15 AM CT and review economic news, earnings, market headlines, and scheduled volatility events.
  2. Review the major indices: Examine overnight price action, higher-time-frame structure, previous-session levels, and pre-market gaps across the principal U.S. equity indices.
  3. Establish market context: Determine whether the indices, gaps, trends, and sentiment are aligned, mixed, or diverging.
  4. Confirm with ATS tools: Use AWT technicals, correlations, market bias, algorithmic signals, and the ATS AI Trade Copilot to evaluate the opportunity.
  5. Trade the planned session: Focus on qualified opportunities from the 8:30 AM CT cash-session open through approximately 11:00–11:30 AM CT while following the trade plan and defined risk limits.

Live Market Algorithmic Trading Stream

The ATS live stream displays real-time algorithmic server charts, market signals, and baseline trade-management examples in simulation accounts. The stream provides a transparent market reference that traders can observe alongside their own ATS workspaces and trading plans.

Typical streaming availability runs from approximately Monday at 7:00 AM CT through the Friday market close, subject to holidays, maintenance, connectivity, and market conditions.

  • Real-time algorithmic server charts for key futures markets.
  • Session Breakout entries, exits, filters, and automated trade-management references.
  • Live market context delivered through Discord, Twitch, and YouTube when available.
  • Convenient viewing from a mobile device, laptop, tablet, or secondary screen alongside the primary trading computer.

Trading & Risk 101

Trading is simple to understand but difficult to master. Do not rush. Consistent trading requires practice, discipline, emotional control, risk management, and the ability to remain stoic through both winning and losing cycles.

Five Essential Trading Tips

  1. Avoid Impatience and FOMO: Never rush into live-money trading because you fear missing an opportunity. Build a repeatable routine and demonstrate consistent simulator results over several market cycles before deciding whether to trade a live or funded account.
  2. Protect Your Trading Capital: Learn and practise in simulation first. A prop-firm evaluation may provide an alternative route to funded trading, but evaluation fees, drawdown limits, consistency rules, and payout conditions still create real financial risk.
  3. Start with Micro Futures: Begin with the smallest practical position size, commonly one Micro futures contract. Increase size only when your results, discipline, account limits, and trade plan justify it.
  4. Control Risk on Every Trade: Define the maximum acceptable loss before entering. Use protective stops, conservative position sizing, daily loss limits, and a risk level that allows you to survive normal losing streaks without emotional decision-making.
  5. Trade a Written Plan: Do not chase the market, revenge trade, or overtrade. Follow a systematic setup, record every trade, review your statistics, and judge performance over a meaningful series of trades rather than one result.

Learn and Practise Before Risking Capital

Use NinjaTrader simulation, replay, backtesting, and demo environments to practise execution and become familiar with the ATS trading tools. The ATS Fast Track and Trade Mastery pathways provide assisted installation, onboarding, structured Stage 1–5 training, turnkey workspaces, trade-plan guidance, AI Copilot resources, and access to the ATS trading groups.

Training and software cannot guarantee profits. The objective is to help you develop a repeatable process, manage risk, reduce avoidable mistakes, and make an informed decision about simulator, prop-firm, or live-account trading.

Expect Winning and Losing Cycles

Market conditions continually change. Trending, ranging, volatile, quiet, news-driven, and seasonal conditions can each produce different results. A trader who begins during a favourable period may develop recency bias and incorrectly assume trading will always feel easy.

A losing cycle can include consecutive losing trades, difficult sessions, drawdowns, and occasionally losing weeks. Stopping after the losses and returning only after conditions improve can create the trading double whammy: taking the losing trades while missing the recovery and subsequent winning cycle.

There Are No Shortcuts

Build a routine, practise consistently, maintain accurate statistics, review your mistakes, and allow enough time to experience different market conditions. Consider progressing beyond simulation only when your execution, risk control, discipline, and month-to-month results demonstrate that you are ready.

Whether you trade a simulator, prop-firm evaluation, funded account, or personal live account, every decision and trade remains your responsibility. Trade only with risk capital you can afford to lose and never assume that past or simulated performance guarantees future results.

Automated Futures Day Trader Trend Scalper Turnkey Workspace for AFT7

June 7, 2021 by AFT

Automated TrendOmeter Trade Filter day trading futures trend scalping

Announcing a new workspace: “AFT Trend Trader Scalper-1001A-Generic-Micros” and “AFT Trend Trader Scalper-1001B-Generic-Micros” for trend scalping with the TrendOmeter filter system to allow many signal opportunities. This was in response to demand for a turnkey workspace that fits better with multi-time frame filter directional bias and TrendOmeter usage. The AFT Session Breakout System may have too few trade signals and miss out on too many good trades for some traders. This new day trading futures trend scalper setup will provide many signals per session and allow trading anywhere on the chart, up or down, without restriction. All filters are off—no traffic light filters, no trading zone filter—only the optional TrendOmeter filter, or the user can set long or short bias in real-time. Here is the initial draft, and it will be added to the Templates Installer. Consider it experimental and aimed at experienced traders who want to use the real-time interactive controls and trade man and machine hybrid automated trading.

The latest AFT7 Workspace version is now 2021.6.7.1. The main program AFT7 version is now 2021.5.25.4 and in most cases should automatically update when NinjaTrader 7 is restarted. However, some antivirus software might prevent this from occurring. To manually update your AFT7 to the latest version, simply visit the AFT downloads, download and run the AFT7 Universal Installer, or you can simply run the AFT7 Templates Installer to select additional options.

WARNING: Please note running the universal installer will close all NinjaTrader platforms running on your PC, including NinjaTrader 8, if running. Running the AFT7 Settings installer can be done with NinjaTrader running; it will not affect it.

AFT Trader John Weekly Trade Video Episode 4 – Trendometer with session breakout

June 6, 2021 by AFT

In this week’s Algo Futures Trading Live Update, AFT John demonstrates how to use the TrendOmeter and AlphaBias trend correlation system as a trade filter for both long and short trades. This is done using AFT7 trading in demonstration mode on the live futures market with the NinjaTrader Platform, trading the NYSE session open.

Please visit the link for TrendOmeter.

Note that the TrendOmeter settings filtered out bad trades and allowed through good trades as it was set tight at 50%. This is a stringent setting when used with a session breakout system and can be easily altered in real-time and saved. With session open breakout trading, the number of trade signals and opportunities will be less than when used in a trend reversal and pullback continuation scenario, which allows trades to be taken further away or anywhere on the chart using a smaller time frame.

As you can see, we don’t cherry-pick or edit videos. As John recollected, “The system still made money overall that day using the TrendOmeter, and there will be days where it will filter out lots of bad trades and some days where it filters out good ones.”

AFT Trader John Weekly Trade Roundup Info: Each week, AFT Trader John will be showing a summary of the trades, futures trading systems, and methods with Algo Futures Trader on the live market using the NinjaTrader Platform. Expect more depth and coverage each week as this new series starts to take shape.

AFT7 update for market analyzer performance issue fixes

May 28, 2021 by AFT

AFT7 was updated as part of maintenance after reports of a slowdown in performance around the NYSE session open. The NinjaTrader 7 would become unresponsive. Optimization development was made to the USAR indicator and USAR OSC, which are used within the AlphaBias Market Analyzer that powers the AFT7 Trendometer. Chart loading time and overall smoother performance have been reported since the corrective development.

Guide to get started with AFT7 day trading

November 25, 2020 by AFT

Session Breakout Trading Micro Futures Turnkey Workspaces pre election

Recommended Path for Getting Started with AFT7

To get started trading with AFT after installation, focus only on the session breakout workspace. Using one workspace at a time is the best practice. Follow the live market and trade from 9:30 AM NYSE EST for about three hours. Less is more; only trade one to three signals per instrument per session.

Starting out with MES is likely easier than MNQ. Save your own workspace and edit your preferred stops, targets, settings, etc. Start small, understand the controls, and system features.

Trading Tips:
Note the look and feel of successful and losing days. Avoid fear, greed, and impatience.

When to Trade and When to Sit Out?

  • Understand when to trade: market directional momentum, price analysis on higher time frames, and schedule of market-moving events.
  • Accept that market price cycles are not your fault or the system’s—trending days and choppy range-bound consolidation slow days.
  • There might only be 12 to 15 good market days per month and five horrendous ones—so why trade them if you can learn to see them prior or as they trade?
  • Better to learn to sit out, watch, and understand the cycles instead of trying to overtrade. Keep a log and note the high-probability days and the losing days. What was the context and pretext?
  • Note the calendar cycle of each new year, quarter, month, week, and day—can you use that for higher accuracy?
  • Use the Trendometer and Market Analyzer to assist and look to trade with correlation for indices of trending confluence rather than a messy, directionless market.

AFT: How It Works

There are four basic ways to trade futures with the AFT system: manual/semi/fully automated entry mode + automatic position trade exit management:

  • NYSE Session Open Breakout
  • Trend Reversal Trading
  • Manual Trade Momentum Trading
  • Manual OCO Breakout

Workspace turnkey settings are provided for that purpose. Simply install and open the system which appeals most.
